Comparison of Four Sample Concentration Methods for Flow Cytometry

A poster by scientists at Beckman Coulter entitled,Sample Concentration Method Analysis Utilizing Portable Dried Reagents (DuraClone™) and a Bench-top Flow Cytometer (CytoFLEX™)presented at the CYTO 2017 Meetingcompared four concentration methods -centrifugation with PALL Sentino™ disposable filtration using glass filtration, and theConcentrating Pipette™for concentrating1 liter samples fromindustrial cooling towersprior to analysis with the CytoFLEX Flow Cytometer. Each method was analyzed for both speed and recovery efficiency.

Results:The Concentrating Pipette yielded the highest total aerobic bacteria recovery at 71% and was the quickest method, taking just 16 minutes to concentrate 1-liter samples.
